Lets Talk About Chakras... disbalance/blockage & what you can do about it!

Updated: Jun 24, 2023

Chakras are an integral part of ancient Indian spiritual traditions, specifically in practices like yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda. The term "chakra" refers to the energy centers within the human body. These centers are believed to be aligned along the spinal column, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, and are associated with various physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being.

There are seven main chakras, each representing different qualities and characteristics. Our chakras play a significant role in our overall well-being and energetic balance. Here are some reasons why it is beneficial to pay attention to our chakras:

1. Energy flow: Chakras are energy centers within our subtle body that regulate the flow of vital life force energy, also known as prana or chi. When our chakras are balanced and open, energy flows freely throughout our body, supporting physical, emotional, and spiritual health. By paying attention to our chakras, we can identify and address any blockages or imbalances that may be hindering the smooth flow of energy.

2. Emotional and mental well-being: Each chakra is associated with specific emotional and psychological aspects of our being. When a chakra is imbalanced or blocked, it can manifest as emotional or mental issues. By tuning into our chakras, we can gain insights into the underlying causes of these challenges and work on healing and balancing them, promoting emotional and mental well-being.

3. Physical health: The chakras are intimately connected to our physical body and various organ systems. Imbalances in the chakras can manifest as physical ailments or discomfort. By paying attention to our chakras, we can address the energetic imbalances that may contribute to physical health issues and support overall vitality and wellness.

4. Self-awareness and personal growth: The chakras provide a framework for self-exploration and personal growth. By understanding the qualities and characteristics associated with each chakra, we can gain insight into ourselves, our patterns, and our strengths and areas for growth. This self-awareness allows us to make conscious choices and take actions aligned with our authentic selves.

5. Spiritual connection: The chakras are considered gateways to higher consciousness and spiritual awareness. By working with our chakras, we can deepen our spiritual connection, expand our consciousness, and tap into our innate wisdom and spiritual gifts.

6. Energetic balance and alignment: Balancing and harmonizing the chakras leads to greater energetic alignment within ourselves. This alignment helps us feel more centered, grounded, and connected, allowing us to navigate life's challenges with greater ease and grace.

1 Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Element: Earth

Color: Red

"I am grounded."

The Root Chakra is associated with the element of earth, symbolizing stability, grounding, and physical connection. It is located at the base of the spine and serves as the foundation for the entire chakra system. The Root Chakra governs our sense of safety, security, and basic survival needs. When the Root Chakra is balanced, we feel grounded, secure, and confident in ourselves and our place in the world.

Signs that may indicate a disbalance or blockage in the Root Chakra (Muladhara):

  • Feelings of insecurity: An imbalanced Root Chakra can manifest as persistent feelings of insecurity, fear, or anxiety. You may find it challenging to trust yourself, others, or the world around you.

  • Lack of groundedness: If your Root Chakra is imbalanced, you may frequently feel mentally or emotionally scattered, lacking a sense of stability or groundedness. It can manifest as a constant sense of restlessness or feeling unmoored.

  • Financial difficulties: The Root Chakra is also associated with abundance and our material well-being. A blockage in this chakra may manifest as ongoing financial struggles, difficulty managing money, or a scarcity mindset.

  • Physical symptoms: Imbalances in the Root Chakra can manifest as physical symptoms such as lower back pain, issues with the legs, feet, or colon, and problems with the immune system. These symptoms may persist even with medical interventions.

  • Lack of connection to the present moment: A disbalance in the Root Chakra can cause difficulty staying present or being fully engaged in the current moment. You may frequently find yourself caught up in worries about the future or dwelling on past events.

  • Lack of motivation or drive: An imbalanced Root Chakra can result in a lack of motivation, feeling sluggish, or having a hard time taking action towards your goals or aspirations.

  • Impulsivity or over-reliance on external validation: When the Root Chakra is out of balance, you may struggle with impulsive behaviors, seeking constant external validation or seeking quick fixes to fulfill your needs.

To open and balance the Root Chakra, consider the following practices:

  1. Grounding exercises: Engage in activities that promote grounding and connection with the Earth. This can include walking barefoot in nature, gardening, or simply sitting or lying down on the ground.

  2. Physical exercise: Engage in physical activities that help you connect with your body and build strength. This can include walking, running, yoga, or any form of exercise that feels grounding and empowering to you.

  3. Root-focused yoga poses: Incorporate yoga poses that activate and balance the Root Chakra, such as Mountain Pose (Tadasana), Tree Pose (Vrikshasana), or Child's Pose (Balasana).

  4. Mindfulness and meditation: Practice mindfulness to bring your awareness to the present moment and cultivate a sense of grounding. Meditation techniques like body scan meditation or visualization of roots grounding you to the Earth can be particularly helpful for the Root Chakra.

  5. Connection with nature: Spend time in nature and develop a deeper connection with the natural elements. Take walks in the forest, sit by a river or lake, or spend time in a park. Connect with the grounding energy of the Earth.

  6. Root Chakra affirmations: Repeat affirmations that focus on grounding, safety, and stability. Examples include "I am rooted and secure," "I trust in the process of life," or "I am safe and supported by the Earth."

  7. Eat nourishing foods: Consume foods that are grounding and nourishing, such as root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or beets. Also, incorporate protein-rich foods that provide a sense of stability and grounding.

  8. Engage in self-care: Take care of your physical needs and prioritize self-care. Establish routines that provide stability, comfort, and a sense of safety. This can include maintaining a healthy sleep schedule, practicing good hygiene, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

  9. Explore grounding crystals: Use crystals that are associated with the Root Chakra, such as red jasper, hematite, or smoky quartz. Carry or wear these crystals or place them near your root area during meditation or relaxation.

  10. Release fears and anxieties: Identify and work through any fears or anxieties that may be blocking the Root Chakra. This can be done through therapy, energy healing, or practices like journaling or visualization.

It governs our creative expression, sensuality, and relationships. When this chakra is balanced, we feel a deep sense of emotional fulfillment and enjoy a healthy, vibrant approach to life.

However, blockages in the Sacral Chakra can manifest as a range of issues. Emotional suppression, creative stagnation, or a lack of passion and vitality are signs of an imbalanced or blocked Sacral Chakra.
